What is the maximum processing size of your CNC machining?

Maximum size of CNC machining is 1600mm.
If size goes larger, we have partners to produce parts up to 2000mm. However, it is subject to board/bar material size. (Common material in market has thickest board in 100 mm, while some special material is even thinner), so even if we have the facility, it might be difficult to get a large enough material to machine. But RPWORLD have plenty of engineering experience, we can split the large size parts and glue them together to break through the restrictions on size. Then it is not difficult to make large parts over meters.

What is the tolerance of your CNC machining?

The tolerance/accuracy of CNC machining is decided by equipment, material, processing technology, etc. Usually accuracy in metal is better than plastic.
Metal products: ± 0.05mm / 100mm.
Plastic products: ± 0.1mm / 100mm.
Higher precision can still be achieved through process adjusting. You may contact our client manager for details.

What are the choices of material for your CNC machining?

There is a wide range of board/bar materials for CNC machining:
Common plastic: ABS, polycarbonate, acrylic, POM/Derlin, polypropylene, nylon 6, nylon with glass fiber, PVC, PBT, etc.,
Common metal: aluminum alloy, copper alloy, stainless steel, die steel, zinc alloy, etc.
Other special materials, please contact our client manager for details.

Is the material of CNC machining same with the material of injection molding?

The particles of board/bar plastic for CNC machining is the same with that of injection molding. Board/bar material is made by extrusion, rolling and compressing. While the other is made by injection molding. The physical and chemical properties are almost the same. But the different forming process will cause a little different physical properties. When testing physical properties on CNC machined prototypes, designers/engineers should take in to consideration that the board/bar material is not able to achieve the best performance of injection molding material in extreme cases. Vise verse.

There are many different kinds of injection molding materials. Even the same material might also be different if they are not from same manufacturers or brands. Board/bar material for CNC machining is usually the most common one in market, so it is normal that they might have different performance.

With years of experience, we believe CNC machined plastic prototypes could perform 80-90% alike the injection molded ones. Designers/engineers can reserve redundancy accordingly.

Complex structure like “undercut” could not be CNC machined? How to solve such problem?

CNC machining cannot process “undercuts”, it is indeed true. Even with 5-axis machine which will have much higher cost, it might still not able to achieve some structure. But RPWORLD has plenty of experience to solve such problem. Our engineering team will design the best split and glue scheme. Our gluing process can maintain the most strengthen of the original structure, sometimes it can be even sturdier. Not only can we realize complex or even unreasonable structure, but also we can significantly reduce the technical difficulty, production cost and time.

If it is metal part, or not allowed to be split/glued. How to handle the complex structures?

Even for metal parts, we still have many methods to achieve complex structure, like CNC machining, EDM, wire cutting, bench work, or customized aids/tools. However, we will definitely and honestly inform the client in early stage if we find some structure is indeed impossible to achieve.

What is the maximum size that the Polyurethane Casting and RIM can process?

RPWORLD’s compounding technology can support workpieces up to 2.2m*1m*1m in size, and the maximum processing weight of the workpiece can be as large as 20kg. In addition, if we need a larger size, we can use RIM technology to process more complex products. Sufficient to meet the changing needs of different customers.

How high can the complex mold achieve?

The complex mode technology can achieve a very good level of precision, and is not affected by the complexity of the structure. Under normal circumstances, we can achieve ±0.3mm/100mm.

What materials can I choose?

The urethane casting and RIM technology used by RPWORLD uses polyurethane PU as the main raw material. PU is an ideal thermosetting reaction molding material. In its normal temperature and normal pressure state, it is expressed as a two-component or three-component liquid material. When mixed, a material with good physicochemical properties is formed. And by adding different material additives, the formed PU can exhibit a variety of different physical and chemical properties, simulating a variety of different thermoplastic materials. Now, we have PUs that simulate these thermoplastics, simulating ABS, PC, PMMA, high temperature, flame retardant, soft rubber and other materials. Our technology can simulate a variety of injection molding techniques using these materials, such as monochrome single component, multi-color multi-component injection molding. With solid color or painting technology, you can achieve perfect product performance.

How long is their mold life? Can you save molds and prototypes for us?

The urethane casting technique uses a silicone mold, that is, the mold is made of silica gel. The advantage of this type of mold is that there is no pressure when implementing complex structures and mold making is very fast and low cost. But his lifespan is not very long. Normally, the mold can be used 15-30 times, and for a very simple structure, it can even be used 50 times. If there is a margin for the service life of the mold during the execution of a project, we can provide the customer with a three-month shelf life. After more than 3 months, due to changes in the surface properties of the mold, the mold will no longer be able to process the perfect product. For the prototype of the mold, if it is not damaged during the mold making process (because some molds need to destroy the prototype), we can provide customers with a storage period of 6 months.

For RIM molds, because the mold uses epoxy or even aluminum molds, the shelf life is longer and can reach 6-12 months. Please communicate with the account manager for details.

Which projects do you usually use for urethane casting?

Urethane casting technology is an ideal low-cost mold technology. It can simulate injection molding technology very well. It is a low-cost, high-quality mold technology. It is especially suitable for production requirements of products with small quantity, variety, batch and structure. For example, in the development of many high-end medical and biochemical equipment and instruments, such products usually have low annual production requirements, complex product structures, and numerous parts. If you use injection mold technology, mold development and every production will cost a lot. In analogy, complex mode technology is an ideal alternative technology.

Another example is that for very complicated products and many parts, it is necessary to verify the design in many aspects before the mass production begins. Especially, many times to simulate the injection design and do a lot of verification tests to ensure that there is no more mold development in the future. problem. In this process, the complex mold technology can play a very good role, using its exquisite product structure features, perfect surface quality and good level of precision, trial production of dozens of sets of products to meet product assembly testing, market Testing and other uses.

In the automotive development process, for example, many prototypes of plastic parts are required, which are traditionally processed by developing experimental injection molds. If developed with mold technology, the cost is high and the production cycle is long. By using complex molding technology, the cost can be significantly reduced by 50%-70%. The development cycle is only one-third of the injection mold.

What kind of material is your mold made, and how long is the mold life?

Our injection molds include two types of experimental molds and mass production molds. For experimental molds, the main applications are low-end products with low demand. We use steels such as P20 and C45. The life of such molds is typically 1-5000 molds. For mass production molds, we use 718, NAK80, S136 and other regular mold steel processing. Please consult your account manager for details.

Do you produce aluminum molds?

We do not provide aluminum molds because we believe that such molds do not have a better advantage in terms of cost, processability, and product quality. Our existing experimental molds are a good alternative to aluminum molds and perform better.

Do you do mold amortization?

We do not offer a business model for mold amortization. The mold and its subsequent injection molding project are charged according to the cost of the finished work model.

If the design needs to be changed after the mold is opened, can the mold be used?

It depends on how easy it is to change the design. For uncomplicated design changes, if the mold status allows, we can make mold changes and the customer will have to pay the relevant fees. For some large-scale design changes, after our evaluation, it is even more difficult to modify the original mold than to make new molds. We will advise customers to make new molds. In addition, too frequent mold changes may result in shortened mold life and damage to some internal vulnerable structures, so we will carefully evaluate how to change according to the state of the mold.

What is the production period of the injection molding project?

Depending on the complexity of the mold, from 2-3 weeks to 5-6 weeks, for particularly complex molds, the time may be longer and we will communicate with the customer during the development cycle.

What is the MOQ of the mold opening? If my demand is not enough for the MOQ you requested, is there any workaround?

The MOQ of different products is different, which is mainly determined by the production conditions required by the product. If the customer's demand can't meet the MOQ, we will charge a certain start-up fee. The specific cost needs to be communicated one by one according to the project status.

How long can the mold last?

We will carry out regular maintenance of the mold. In general, for molds that are not used for a long time, our shelf life is 3 years. If the mold is produced every year, we will help the customer manage to save longer. Usually we will communicate the follow-up with the customer when the mold is due to expire.

Which after-treatment processes can color plastic products?

Normally, we can color the base material by modulating the raw materials. For materials with existing colors such as plates and bars, we can color the products through surface painting, silk screen printing, color plating and other processes. For transparent products, we can color them through the bleaching process.

Which after-treatment processes can be used to color metal products?

For aluminum alloy materials, we can color them by color oxidation process. For all metals, we can color them by electroplating, painting, spray molding, etc.

Can you make mass-produced textures during the prototype phase?

We will try to simulate the texture of the mass production products, but because many textures are processed by the mold etching process, we can only develop by only making experimental molds. For the texture decoration process such as water transfer, we can achieve it in the prototype stage.

What decorative after-treatment can you do? (silk screen, laser engraving, etc.)

We can achieve different surface treatment requirements through a variety of processes. Including painting, silk screen, pad printing, laser engraving, polishing, fumigation, water transfer, fabric and leather coating, electroplating, oxidation, vacuum sputtering and other processes. If you have special needs, please contact your account manager.
