MRI Introduction

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive and painless procedure that uses a magnetic field and radio frequency signals to create detailed images of the organs and tissues in our body.

MRI Principle: MRI is based on the principles of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), which is a spectroscopic technique used to obtain microscopic chemical and physical data about molecules.

MRI Features: High resolution, multi-parameter imaging, low side effects without radiation, and ability to diagnose, visualize and evaluate various illnesses.

Material Requirements for MRI Components

The basic design of an MRI scanner is the same in almost all machines. It consists of a wide tube, magnet, a Radio Frequency (RF) coil, gradient coils, patient table and a computer system. And it was found that material selection was important design parameters for mitigating total coil background signal, in the purpose of avoid interfering of the operation of MRI machine.

A typical specialty coil requires a number of plastic components with complex geometries and engineer-grade materials. Though the coils have different requirements in order to avoid signal interfering with functions of MRI machine, in general a coil component material needs to meet all following requirements:

● The materials have low proton signal strength to avoid signal interfering of MRI machine.

● The materials have high radio frequency dielectric strength to insulate the patient from electricity.

● The materials offer low magnetic field distortion to avoid signal interfering with the magnets that align the protons in the body.
